Annual Meeting of the Members

At the annual meeting, some students may:

• Receive updates on the association’s activities, finances, and accomplishments from the past year (the “Annual Report”)
• Review financial statements and auditor reports
• Vote on bylaw changes, if proposed
• Ask questions, raise concerns, and share feedback
• Meet their elected student leaders and learn about upcoming initiatives
• Vote to appoint or reappoint auditors

The Members’ Meeting Agenda is approved by the Board of Directors. The Board will determine items for the Members’ Meeting and may refer items through different channels (governance committee, finance committee, town hall discussion, etc), if necessary. • The Board sets the agenda for the Members’ Meeting.
• The Members’ Meeting have the power to make decisions that are conferred as a responsibility to another body (i.e. the Board of Directors) to uphold. So, a Members’ Meeting is the best way for the general membership to actively and directly oversee the organization and ensure its own governing practices are reflective of their interests, and this is done by amending the bylaws. Any bylaw revision is either due to legislative changes (e.g., Ontario Non-Profit Corporations Act) and/or governance change proposals that ensure the MSA is being responsive to the ever-changing needs of students.
• All MSA meetings are governed by Weinberg’s Rules (A paired down Roberts Rules of Order) to ensure meetings are held in an orderly fashion

• Weinberg’s Rules is essentially a guide of how individuals speak to governing items, including ethics and customs that are followed during the meeting.
