The Assyrian Chaldean Syriac Student Union (ACSSU) of Canada was founded in 1999 (formerly known as the Assyrian Canadian Student Union).
The only organization of its kind in Canada, ACSSU has branches at McMaster University, York University, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo and Humber College, TMU, Brock University, University of Toronto, and most recently, Western University.
The purpose of the Assyrian Chaldean Syriac Student Union (ACSSU) at Mohawk College is to create a supportive, inclusive environment for Assyrian, Chaldean, and Syriac students while promoting and preserving our cultural heritage, history, and advocating for human rights. This community will serve as a platform for students to engage with one another, educate their peers, and contribute to the greater understanding of our cultural identity both within and outside the college. ACSSU is open to all Mohawk College students, with a particular focus on those who identify with the Assyrian, Chaldean, or Syriac communities. However, the club welcomes students from all backgrounds who are interested in learning more about the Assyrian culture, history, and the issues we face. We aim to include students from diverse academic programs, fostering interdepartmental dialogue and collaboration.
