Mental Health Toolbox

The Mental Health Toolbox is an initiative aimed at reducing stigma, raising awareness, and providing practical tools to support mental health in the trades. In an environment where stress, isolation and physical fatigue are all too common, the Mental Health Tool Box offers students relatable strategies for taking care of themselves and supporting others.

The Mental Health Toolbox is an initiative aimed at reducing stigma, raising awareness, and providing practical tools to support mental health in the trades. In an environment where stress, isolation and physical fatigue are all too common, the Mental Health Tool Box offers students relatable strategies for taking care of themselves and supporting others.

Each month will highlight a different tool, paired with themed activities and trivia prizes that bring the message to life.

September— Hammer: Break the Stigma 

This session focuses on breaking down harmful ideas that make it harder to talk about or prioritize mental health. Activities and information will highlight how addressing stigma and practicing self-care can improve overall quality of life. The event will also include a BBQ for students to enjoy while taking part. 

October — Wrench: Adjust Your Thinking 

Like a wrench adjusts bolts, this session is about reframing unhelpful thoughts. Students will take part in activities and learn strategies for shifting perspective and approaching challenges with a healthier mindset.

November — Magnet: Build Support Systems

A magnet pulls things together, just like support systems do. This session will explore how to build connections, ask the right questions, and identify resources that can provide meaningful support for students.

December — Saw: Cut the Stress 

As exams and assignments pile up, stress often grows. This session will focus on identifying common sources of stress, such as heavy workloads, lack of sleep, or poor time management, and offer tools to reduce their impact and create healthier routines.

The Mental Health Toolbox is more than a series of events, it’s an opportunity to start conversations, share resources, and build resilience within the trades community. Mohawk students receive 24/7 mental heatlh and wellness support through their MSA Health & Dental Insurance Plan, including:
